Maryon Park Benchwarmers
Three Photos
Our first sit down of the Capital Ring was at the entrance to Maryon Park, made famous by the brilliant '60s movie "Blow Up."
We had visited here eight years ago while walking the Green Chain. These walks, including our present one, try to follow as
many parks and woodlands as possible, minimizing the time spent on city streets. It works beautifully!
This Tudor extravaganza was built in 1612 for a tutor to King James I's son. It is now a library. Note the sunken wall in the
foreground (actually called a "ha-ha"), built to separate the house from the park.
Deb strides purposefully across Woolwich Common, where we stopped for lunch. The walk today connects 10 parks,
meaning we rarely interacted with traffic and normal sidewalks. Ahead lies Shooters Hill, the highest point of our walk.
