Swan, Swan Pub, Streatley
Three Photos
There is a swan at The Swan, and he jealously guarded his patch near the food tables at riverside.
While we sat out enjoying the day and contemplating our upcoming visit to Aldworth Village, a clatter of hooves drew our eyes to the
bridge. A funeral procession was passing, with the casket in full view in a magnificient horse-drawn hearse. Time seemed to stand
still as the procession passed, but I was able to get one quick photo off before it passed into Streatley.
One of the main goals today was to get to a nearby village named Aldworth, to experience a country pub that seems not to have
changed in centuries. "The Bell" became a highlight of our trip. We took a taxi from Streatley, about a ten minute ride through the
countryside in a minivan driven by a very personable middle-aged man who would be visiting Canada in May. We sat here a few hours,
sipping excellent ales and listening to the locals chatter on and on (and drink on and on). Afterwards, we called our cab again to get us,
returned to Streatley and began the day's major walk.
